To clarify,

The proposal as it stands is that ALL STUDENT COMPETITONS will be exempt from the
requirement of association membership.

Events which we propose to be membership-compulsory are:-

- Open Tour

- Open Nationals

- Indoor Open Regionals & Nationals

- Mixed Tour & Nationals
(Open to discussion on this one - maybe only the Nationals should be compulsory as the
Mixed events are supposed to attract beginners. However the free year of eligibility
should be enough to get new players hooked without this concession)

All other events are entirely free of any bother from the association. If this boosts
the market for fun tournaments then - nice one!

To clarify also, the 'free year of eligibility' is only that - free eligibility. It
does not mean you get all the perks such as newsletter, insurance, etc, etc. We can
afford to give discounts but we can't haemorrhage money.

To respond to the question about coaching and insurance....
We have a National Coaching Foundation coaching course in the pipeline - I believe
this may eventually offer a solution to any requirements for official coaches. Just as
BUF staff are currently insured for public liability we will of course have to make
sure coaches are provided with suitable cover. Again something for the new board of
directors to sort out.
