Women's Tour: this was a direct request from the organisers to reduce any
perceived difficulty in entering and to encourage more players and teams.
This is the first year in what we hope will become as important to Women's
Ultimate in the UK as the Tour is to Open Ultimate.

Tour B: I am surprised to hear your comments as I was expecting this to be a
popular change. Many people have told us over the last year or so that the
role of the rostering process has achieved what it was initially conceived
for (to encourage geo teams and team/club stability). The whole Tour
concept was created with the primary aim of improving the top clubs and, in
this regard, has been a huge success. Most of the changes to the Tour this
year are attempts to further help the development of the clubs outside the
top 4 or 8 - both in terms of standard and in terms of numbers of teams
playing. By creating a separate Tour B we hope to improve the quality and
choice of venues (because we are not limited to the very large venues) as
well as increasing the quality of competition even more. It also gives us
the ability to cope with the slowly increasing number of teams that want to
take part in the Tour.

The feedback we had received was that the rostering process was seen as
unnecessary red tape that distracted teams from focusing on recruitment and
development - and enjoying the sport!

My point is that all these changes are aimed at helping teams outside the
top 4, we are expecting teething problems (when the Tour was instigated
there were many problems, but the result has been overwhelmingly positive in
the long run); but we certainly do not want to diminish Tour B in any way.

Unfortunately it is too late to make significant changes for 2004 (the rules
were announced in Oct 2003). However, feedback that we receive (via
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or even BD) will affect how things are changed for
2005.

Barry

PS Remember you still have to be a paid member to play in Tour B and you are
encouraged to join your 'Team List' on the website even though it is not a
strict requirement.
