Day 3 Mixed bag of a day for the GB teams today. Both the Mixed and the Junior open teams were on the receiving end of drubbings from those pesky North Americans. The mixed team lost the first half 9-0 to Canada, but then put up a better show in the second, finally succumbing 17-6. The juniors may of thought they were in with a chance of a shock when they were leading the Americans 4-3 but 14 points later reality had bitten. In junior ultimate the North Americans are in a diffrent league, but our boys had their own reason for cheer a little later in the day (but more of that later).
GB open continued their unbeaten run with an easy win over Brazil (17-6) and then a demoliion job on the Danes (17-3). A win over Japan on the morning of day 4 will secure them top place in their group and a show game on Wednesday night at the main stadium. Whilst we should be congratulating our brit boys and gals on their successes today (mention here for the Junior Women who got their first points in International Ultimate) we should also spare a thought for Australia whose tournament form took a turn for the worse today. Although they may have the excuse that losing the game was a tactic to secure an easier 2nd pool, the Australian Open's 17-8 loss to the yanks must sureley have been a disappointment considering their unbeaten and impressive run of wins in America prior to WUGC. Worse in store for the Aussies when their juniors realised their worst nightmare...... they lost to us!!!!! GB prevailed 18-17 in a very tight affair in which the lead changed on more than one occasion. A win now for GB juniors over the Germans tomorrow would most probably secure them a semi final spot. Oz get their chance for revenge tomorrow when GB Women Juniors face the Aussies with an ex brit player lining up against them in the green and gold. GB have their own opportunity for revenge for GB Junior Women's 18-4 defeat to Japan today; both the Open and Mixed teams face them tomorrow. However, both Japanese teams are undefeated in their pools, meaning some tough games will be fought. If GB Open win their matchup then they will be the only undefeated team in their pool, joining the US (assuming they beat Finland), and Canada or Germany in the third pool, which will be another big match tomorrow. It's all to play for... More soon... AVBU Day 3...
