“Tune Up Write Up”

Now that my homework is out the way I can tell you all how I saw the tournament unfold

.

It all started on Friday when arriving at around 5:00 peak rush hour in Glasgow the
University of Cork arrived in Glasgow Preswick Airport, a small convoy went to find
them and show them Sunny Stirling, lol. Late we were but the Cork team had by them
taken over the airport bar and were working their way through the stock. During that
time Rob was in Glasgow collecting players also and collecting the most delightful
balloons we all saw during the party.

Friday night in No 2 Baker Street the pub with the most unoriginal name in the history
of Pubs. We had a Dj all for us but the old Stirling head bangers decided to rock to
the sounds R n B and were much entertainment. After only three teams had arrived the
pub was full and a strict “one in one out” policy was controlled by some blaze
players, who became part time doormen for a night.

Other events on Friday night were the constant pitter-patter of the rain on my window,
I didn’t sleep, being too worried the tourney would be called of due to Ultimate in a
mud bath had not been invented yet.

Oh yeah some of the Irish players taking their sport too professionally decided to go
clubbing in FUBAR nightclub till four.

Saturday morning

Three blaze players went to set the pitches at around seven, and lay the beautiful
porta-field that was on pitch two, (check out their website) www.port-a-field.com

The rain fell lightly and all games were slightly late but we were on a tight schedule
and everyone was kept busy.

Last game on Saturday was Blaze vs Shooting Stars (Dundee) we had the cheerleaders
giving us support but it did nothing to hold back the might of the Dundee team who
took the victory by just a point, making us look stupid in front of our adoring
groupies, (yeah right).

Party baby

Never have I seen such dedication to a party theme as the Samson like effort put in by
all the teams for this party. It was a phenomenon. From the Super Ted costume to the
Princesses and Fairies to the cowboys and cowgirls, oh and a couple people humorously
dressed as dirty old men. Not to forget Mario and Luigi and the rest of the Pies who
drank pints out of potties, wearing nappies hilarious.

Three pint challenges were on the go to apparently somewhere near the pool tables.

Normally a winning time Glasgow pulled an amazing 17 seconds. But Blaze had home
advantage and just piped them to the post with 16 seconds.

I find it quite stupid that I’m telling you about the party when I don’t remember most
of the night.

One thing sticks tho and sorry to all the captains who had their seeding for the next
day tattooed on to their arms a tattoo that I only found out is very hard to wash off.

Ahh Sunday morning, another early game at 9:30 for most people and Stirling pitches
were looking good, a bit soggy but perfect to lay out on.

I would like to say sorry to all the teams for the schedule, it became apparent that
if you did not finish first in your pools you would not end up top four. As TD I
should have been aware of this imperfection and sorry to anyone if it put a dampener
on your weekend.

Next I’d like to say thank you to Mike/JB/Dawgg who made the schedule thanks Mike. The
work and time you put into that tournament was the single biggest part of Tune Up. I
think you did amazingly to make sure people did not have to change between pitches
20mins away, you also gave people a lunch break on both days and to top it off made
sure no 1st and 2nd teams played each other or that the Irish teams didn’t meet in
pool play. Without you doing all those logistics there would be no tune up.

Ohh fun more apologies…

Mac line.

What happened…

Scheduled for Saturday afternoon it just seemed people were too cold or already
showered to get in the Guinness book of records. Again Sorry.

But the final came and the play was the reason we call this sport Ultimate.

The best greatest was performed by Sam who caught the disc in mid layout and
forehanded it under this outstretched body to Joe in the zone who probably did his
trade-mark no look catch, for a point…wow.

Final was won by Pick Up Kings

PS

Would you be so kind as to help us and therefore make things better for you by
answering some of these questions.

1. What did you think of tune up?

2. What was your favorite part?

3. What could we have done better?

4.Would you come again?

5. Would you have bought t-shirts and hoodies if they had been on sale? How much would
you pay for a blazer top, and how much for a tune up top
