2. Thanks
I would like to pass thanks to:
a) Lady Manners School and particularly Bernard, the groundsman, for
preparing excellent pitches again.
b) St John's Ambulance for being on site all weekend
c) Flyght Club for providing the marquee for post-pub entertainment on
Saturday night
d) Jaimie Cross for doing the schedule (several times!!)
e) Dave Sealy for providing the food again including the infamous
'build-your-own' sandwiches
f) Little Sheff for helping me throughout the weekend and being general
legends
3. Charity Outcome
Both Dave Sealy and myself have donated some of the proceeds from the
tournament to charity. The total amount donated is 250. The chosen charity
is Water Aid. Water Aid is a charity that provides the most basic human
right, access to safe drinking water and sanitation, in the developing
world. This is the charity that Dave Barnyard and Carole Egerton are
currently walking the 190-mile Coast-to-Coast walk in aid of. If you would
like to sponsor them, and do you bit for a basic human right, then please go

4. Tournament Report by Rob Owen
This weekend Mixed Tour 3 was held in Bakewell. In what has now become an
annual event 22 teams competed for the trophy.
The first day brought rain, wind and the inevitable Junk defence that
follows. In the bottom half the somewhat controversially seeded BAF
justified their position by losing to Throwing Shapes who had made the
journey over from Ireland.
In the top half a large and relaxed Little Sheff squad enjoyed playing at
home mauling Discuits and Electric Mayhem before overcoming top seeds
Rampant X in an error-strewn encounter. In the other pool Leeds and Limited
Release comfortable finished in the top two positions.
At the end of the day the crossovers brought plenty of changes with three
teams moving into the top 8 from the lower pools. The only team missing out
being BAF who lost again this time to Brighton.
Saturday night brought torrential rain, howling foxhounds and the
traditional drunken mess in the pavilion. As per usual really.
Sunday and the Bakewell sunshine finally emerged. The quarterfinals all
went to seeding with a number of beatings being dished out. Little Sheff
continued their form with a 15-2 thumping of the Irish whilst Limited, Leeds
and Rampant all moved safely through.
So to the semi's where Leeds started strongly (6-5 up) against a depleted
Rampant X only to be pulled back and finally beaten 12-6. They moved into
the final to play Sheff who had beaten Limited in a strange semi. After
taking a 7-1 lead Rodders attempted an audacious pull which whilst in theory
would go over the tennis courts round the oak tree and into the bottom
corner of the opponents end-zone actually left the pitch 2 metres from his
own line never to be seen again............ Limited then scored 6 straight
points until a time-out stopped their flow and they failed to score again.
Leeds then went on to beat Limited in a sudden death thriller for 3rd.
So to the final. Little Sheff went up quickly with their traditional long
game. Well it is so tempting when the team is that tall. They were pegged
back by good Rampant defence and a number of Helix throw-aways from Si Weeks
(Who else?). First Thack then Rodders attempted the impossible pull with no
success in what was turning into a huck fest. Little Sheff eventually came
through with a typical Hammer score to win 15-11........ Not really a
surprise, we don't lose at home.
