Dear all
It rained and hailed. The wind was varying between strong and very
strong. However this did not seem to stop some great ultimate from being
played all the way through the tournament by all teams there. As I
wandered around I was able to see some very good examples of both
ultimate and spirit. Well played to all. I was particularly impressed
with the performances of many teams in the lower end of the tour. The
conditions being so difficult I was expecting to see a lot of turnovers
and a lot of huck and zone type play. I was however instead treated to
some high quality attacking play both up and down wind. The netball
players were very impressed both with the game, the fitness and skill on
display. As a result we may be getting some press coverage in the local
paper. If so I will try and scan the article and make it available some how.
The rest of this is broken into sections to highlight some thoughts that
occurred during the weekend.
1) The venue
Once again sorry about pitch 12. The centre however where very impressed
with both ultimate and the players and want us back again. To that end
they are investigating the removal of a large concrete section in the
outfield to allow the venue to take the full 12 pitches. Judging by the
comments I have had most people quite liked the venue and would be happy
to come back if that final pitch can be made full size.
2) The food
Many thanks to all who said how much they liked the food. My in-laws
were very grateful that their efforts were appreciated. Sorry that it
and thus the tournament desk had to be moved around I hope when they
were needed you were able to find them.
3) Captains meeting
This was quite poorly attended by the teams who knew they were not
playing first game. This means that some information can not be passed
on to those teams. To the extent I still had a captains pack at the end
of the weekend handed out in the presentations! All teams should ensure
that they have a representative there.
4) General Thank you
Last time I ran a tournament with the deadline tomorrow I only had 9
teams entered and I got a flood of cheques the following day. This time
I had over subscribed with well over a week to go. Thank you to all
teams for making this part of a TDs life a bit less stressful.
Finally I hope you all enjoyed the weekend (as much as you could given
the weather.) Should you have any comments or criticism please feel free
to email me so that next time I run an event it will be an improvement
on this one.
Cheers
Jolyon
