Hello,
Gonna add my two pence in about this tour. I am speaking on behalf of myself, not my team, although I suspect they will probably agree with some of my points on the results situation. We were told when we left on Saturday that we had topped our group and would be playing Fire 2 in the morning. Nice easy game to start with. We got up and headed to the pitches to find that in fact we had now come second and GB Jrs were playing Fire 2. GB Jrs had no idea about this and were off to play against Abstract 2. It seems, from our chats with the TD, that there are no clear rules about what happens if the league is tied. We were told CATEGORICALLY on the evening that it went on head to head and having beaten GB Jrs (only just) we were therefore top. Then the next morning about 15 minutes before we were due to teach Fire 2 a lesson in negative hucking and catching the disc with the eyeball, we were told that they had changed their minds and it was now done it on points difference. When was this decision made? No one seemed to be sure what was going on, Gb Jrs had to leg it over to play Fire 2 (after we had the decency to tell them of course) with little warning and we had to deal with the fact that we were out of the top 8. Which was our aim for the whole weekend so bit of a let down. No one seemed to have a clue what was going on and it was a rubbish start to the day for us. Luckily both games were scheduled at the same time. What would have happened if one game was 8.30 and one 10.30? Would the team turning up "late" had to forfeit their game? Total shambles really. We would definitely have beaten Fire 2 as well. Obviously. They had nothing on us. I've just tried to read the rules on the UKUA website but it's not that clear. It does seem to indicate a head to head policy on tied places though. Does anyone know what SHOULD happen here? As it goes GB Jrs probably deserved their slot as top of the group. They were awesome and their points difference was huge and fair play to them but it was done in a rubbish manner for all involved. I demand we be awarded top seeding. Or something. On top of that, the camp site seemed to have no toilets (at least on the Friday when we arrived) which wasn't so much a problem for the blokes in our team but wasn't ideal for the girl. Regardless it's still unacceptable. How can the toilets be locked when they knew we were coming? Could that not have been sorted out better? The first aid on hand was laughable. I managed to batter my knee (you know who you are) and was given a bandage soaked in water to cool it. Thinking this was some sort of new fangled treatment it soon became clear they didn't want to give their ice packs away. As they had 2. This injury was in the first point in the first game on the first day! No joke. How did they have no ice packs? What did they bring with them then? I hate to think how much they were paid for this service. Next time give my old dear a call. She'll come down with some cider and a load of ice in a wheelbarrow for £50. Think of the savings. The pavilion was some sort of derelict building site/war zone. I think I came out dirtier than I went in although the showers were hot. The burger van wasn't ideal! Who eats burgers for lunch when playing sport? Kiwi Dave perhaps. >From start to finish it just seemed that the event was poorly staged. My first >Mixed tour was York and everyone seemed to kick off about that but I though it >was ok myself. This is my first Open tour and I must say it failed to inspire >me with confidence. Maybe I'm just bitter as I was so looking forward to playing Fire 2 but things like seemed to demonstrate how little control there was of results and seedings. Compared to Nationals at Southampton, I don't think you can even make a comparison. I know loads of work must have gone into it and the results thing may not be the TD's fault as the rules look unclear but overall I wasn't that impressed. If this happened at A tour I am sure there would be an almighty row about it. Do we lose out because we 're not as good? Berry78. Lucky Huckers. But speaking for himself.
