Dear UKU,

The UK development committee has recently been working towards developing
regional leagues. Aiming to make ultimate opportunities much more
accessible to all levels of players. This e-mail is more of a 'proof of
concept' so
that we can get feedback from people who have missed the debate.

The league is set to run sometime outside of the 'usual season' i.e.
September to Febuary.
Trying to keep this short the Aims are-

1. To provide opportunities for new players and teams to get involved
in Ultimate without having to commit to a Tour or a Summer / Winter
League season.

2. To develop current players & clubs by encouraging more competitive
local friendly matches.

3. To act as a battleground for dedicated clubs to compete with
their rivals away from big tournaments and at times which both clubs
find convenient.

4. To strengthen connections between geo-Club and University teams, as
well as Club and Uni Ultimate as a whole.

5. To encourage clubs and individuals to become pro-active in
organising and hosting their own events, providing a stepping stone
for would-be TD's to gain experience.

How:

1. The creation of a league open to all teams in the UK, where
participation is voluntary and match results are fed into a table
which is broken down into regional divisions.

2. Uni and Club teams organise their own games/events, which can be
open to all teams or can be tailored towards uni, club, womens,
beginners, developing, or experienced teams. These events can be held
whenever is suitable for the hosts and visiting teams.

3. Upcoming events are primarily announced on a regional mailing list,
or to individual team contacts (available on the web-site), and can be
anything from a single game between 2 teams, to a one-day tournament
for a handful of clubs. All the event organisers need to do is secure
some pitch space and choose a suitable date. They then feed the
results into the web-site (which has some safeguards in place), and
the relevant tables are updated.

4. As the aim of the league is to encourage participation, the
distribution of ranking points is set to reward activity as well as
performance.

5. The results are split into separate tables for Club, University,
Womens and Junior competition, with the Open table combining all
results. National ranking tables are divided into six regions -
Scottish, Northern, Midlands, Western, Southeast, and Irish.
