There's a possibility that I'm just rising to the bait here but seriously,
essentially you've just asked a question equivalent to 'why can't non-elite
mens teams enter the womens tour' or 'why can non-elite mens team enter junior
events'. Erm, do I really need to go here?

There are plenty of opportunities to go to 'fun' tournaments, and with the
advent of ladder league there's more opportunity to particiapte in or run a
small tournanment for 4-6 teams yourself and all go out drinking afterward.

  Hey all,

As someone that somehow finds time to read a LOT of what is posted on BD I
thought it time I said something!!! YAY

OK Firstly I am an open player and have been into ultimate since I was 13 (am
26 now to give you an idea!!)

Anyone who has ever met me or what not knows I love what I would call old
school ultimate. I love to party, enjoy playing the game that i can guarantee
EVERYONE here loves, and such like!!
But I think more recently a lot of things posted onto BD are being over
critical of something that is supposed to be a good FUN sport.
The cost thing........... OH MY GOD, loads of opinions on this!!! But basically
I agree with the dont overcharge dramatically for no reason. (I heard market
price mentioned) If your tournament cost so much to run add a bit for
yourselves but don't overdo it thats all i say! As someone who has to pay lots
of money to get to any tourney I dont like the thought of paying a few pounds
extra in tourney fees (thats valuable beer money dont you know!!) Go completely
with Mr Steve G about why should you pay more if its not neccessary. But still
what do i know!!!

Other thing was the whole Uni thing, OK Tour = great as any team is eligible,
apart from our team as not many of us are registered UKUA players!!!
Student/Uni stuff - This I do have a bit of a beef with...............(I am
going to get ripped into but hell its my opinion) Why do Uni teams/student
teams need there own massive thing where non uni teams are allowed to enter????
Surely if Open teams were eligible into Uni events it would give lesser open
teams a chance to actually play more often!!!! (This is a concern for us
especially as I previously mentioned we do not have a full UKUA registered
team) Don't get me wrong I love playing the party tournaments (Copa (indoors
and out), Great Barr Crawl etc) But it would be so much nicer if there were
more oppurtunities for teams like ours to get to tourneys.
Basically I think my point is overall Uni's can go into open tourneys and open
teams cant go into uni tourneys!!
All of what I have said will probably be shot down into a million pieces but I
just hope that most will see this as my own little way of making my point known
and lets all be nice and happy!!!!

REMEMBER SPIRIT IS THE ULTIMATE WINNER!!!! ;-D
