Discuits Mixed are looking build on the national and international successes we
have achieved over the past few seasons. For those who haven't heard of us we
are a team that has grown out of Reading, picking up friends and team mates
from London through to Exeter. We've played in the Tour for many years,
qualifying and going to Worlds in Perth and picking up some big results from
the last few years.

*Ambitions*
Discuits Mixed are aiming to qualify and attend Europeans in 2009 followed by
Worlds in 2010. To do this we are looking to build a squad of players who want
to play and train together for the tour seasons to achieve this. We would like
to invite *anyone* who wants to be a part of this to read on.

*1 or 2 teams?*
We are aiming to be able to enter 2 teams into the mixed tour. From the level
of interest so far I'm confident we can achieve this but as this coming year is
qualification year for worlds 2010 we will send the strongest 1st team possible
to each tour to maximise our chances of reaching our goals.

*Timescales & Commitment*
We are looking for *any* ultimate players who are willing to make a commitment
to the team. You don't have to be a superstar to come and try out for this
team, so if you are willing to put the work in and willing to learn you will be
welcome at our training sessions.

From now until Christmas we are going to be recruiting, planning and feeling
slightly guilty about the volume of mince pies we consume. This is a time when
personal fitness and general play can be worked on by every individual. After
Christmas training will probably be held in Reading but we want to locate our
training so as to be easy to get to for the majority of players so this may be
reviewed.

In terms of signing on we understand that a 2 year commitment is a very big ask
so we plan to have 3 stages of commitment. Please see those stages below;

1. *Jan - March 09* > 5 compulsory training sessions. This coming years mixed
tour starts early. We want to make rapid progress in our ability to play as a
team.

End of Feb - Start March > Review performance.
Is this right for us?
Is this fun?
Is this what we all want?
Are we doing well enough to achieve our goals?

At this point if you decide if you are in for the season or if this is not for
you. You are free to seek other teams to play with or continue to train with us
but change your level of personal commitment to the team.

With this information we will be planning the frequency of training sessions we
think are required to build team consistency but without burning out players
and their travel expenses. We have done well over the past few years but would
concede we haven't trained enough to reach our full potential. We do also
recognise that having compulsory training too often can take it out of players
in terms of what they can physically and financially afford to do.

1. *Enter Tour* > Once we have reviewed our training plans we will be asking
for everyone wanting to go to Euro's to commit for the tour. The goal is to
qualify for Worlds. We believe this is achievable. Not easy but achievable.
2. *Euro's* > Due to our tour finish last year we believe we are the 1st
alternate team for a qualifying spot at Euro's. As spots haven't been
officially awarded yet I can't confirm this 100%. We have been advised that we
may well be awarded a spot so we intend to train as if we have the spot.
3. *Worlds* > It's pretty difficult to say exactly how commitment will work for
this yet but expect a similar structure for 09 to be implemented for 2010 as
for 2009.

*Reward*
We will have the privilege of training and playing with a group of players who
have common goals and who have committed to becoming a team. I'm sure many of
you will have played on teams with gifted individuals but we want to make this
team successful by playing the best team ultimate possible. We take pride in
how we play and what we achieve as a team.

There is a social side to Discuits that revolves around pies, beer and parties.
I'm not going to go into detail in this email about the social aspects of the
team (this isn't the right forum) but there will be socials, you will party and
it will be fun. That's the first order from your co-captains for the year,

Helen + Ben
