BD, (Sorry for the delay getting this summary out. It was a busy week.)
It was a risky move when we first met with the folks in Ingoldmells at Joe's Beach Bar and they convinced us to try and hold a beach tournament that would occupy over 500m of typically heavily populated tourist beach on a weekend in June. As it turned out the biggest problems turnout out to be things like portable shower blocks, organising camping on the sand, sorting a meal package, going miles over budget with surprise costs and of course dealing with the usual teams who are coming...then aren't...then are...then aren't right up until the final hour. The weekend itself played out as smooth as a tournament that's never been run before at a completely new venue could have. We had two massive parties, 6.5 pitches of quality ultimate, 31.5 teams, 200 balloons, 2 more showers than I paid for showed up, 2000 donated freebies from our drink sponsors, 350 happy Ultimate players and a very happy venue that said with enthusiasm that Ultimate players can come back anytime. The winners of the event were Mohawks over SeXXXXtravagant. The plate was given to Demons although I heard afterwards that I was misinformed and in fact Duracell won that plate final. Confusing stuff. Demons if this is correct...you owe Duracell one Elvis Collectable Plate. Spoon went to the Codicote Sex Pathers along with the party award thanks to their interpretation of 'Blue Hawaii' to mean Smurfs in grass skirts. Spirit went to ABH winning a close race with Disc-guise. Everybody was quite good about cleaning up after themselves as well. Except one person. They left a destroyed tent full of water and rubbish. You can see this persons tent in this aerial photo of the event http://www.copadelsoul.com/deadtent.jpg . If you are this person or know who this person is simply by seeing where the tent is in the aerial photo, I'd love to know. Lastly, if you were there please feel free to respond to these questions so we can improve (or not bother) with the event next year... 1. If you could change one thing what would it be 2. Was the food good value. 3. How were the showers? (cold or hot). 4. How was the pitch quality 5. Would you come again even if any problems you found weren't corrected next year. Thanks to everybody who helped including the Karma Army of volunteers who worked around the clock to make it run smoothly and of course to the venue Joe's Beach Bar. (http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=31264261981&ref=ts) and finally the event sponsors Lookfly, Pulsin', Jaegermeister, Kick, Sourz and Luxardo. The Copa Cabana in August (www.thecopa.co.uk) needs volunteers to join it's Karma Army to help run the event. If you're interested then please let me know. Cheers Steve G Copa TD (ps...as usual if anyone would like to discuss finances for the event to help with your own organisation just let me know) -- ------------------ __________________________________________________ BritDisc mailing list [email protected] http://www.fysh.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/britdisc Staying informed - http://www.ukultimate.com/staying-informed
