Thanks for your question Phil. Yes - the kind of tutorial we ran on Monday will be repeated and available to more players in the future - in all likelihood we will start by doing a similar session at one of the GB trials in Oct/Nov, and then at later sessions with the Junior and Masters squads. There will also be paper and online educational materials - this is primarily being driven at a WFDF level at this point. But I'd like to take this chance to thanks Ali Smith for her work on this - Monday's session was really interesting.
Other stuff like this? Anti-Doping. We are in discussions with "UK Anti-Doping" about signing up formally to their rules, and what impact that will have on Ultimate in the UK. Coaching. - We are looking at setting up a series of "open-to-all" skills sessions around the country aimed at under-18s in that particular area. This is something that will run in parallel with the GB Junior programme but will specifically aim to encourage players that wouldn't expect to play GB, and/or are total beginners. - The long-awaited Level 2 is taking shape (finally) - and someone is working on the material as I type. Please don't email me for dates. Anyone that wants to be informed of coaching courses should subscribe to the Coaching_Course_Notifications newsletter - you can sign up on any of the coaching pages on the website: http://www.ukultimate.com/coaching - Which is a good chance to remind people about the UKU Coach Register. This is mandatory for anyone that has done the Level 1 award and is coaching Ultimate outside their immediate club (or GB). More details are here: http://www.ukultimate.com/coaching_register - Many players are not aware that UKU runs an introductory coaching award aimed at coaches, sports teachers and youth leaders that are new to Ultimate. This is called the Leader Award. If you know of people that might be interested in these please point them to our website for more info. http://www.ukultimate.com/coaching_scheme/coaching_scheme_structure Si > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] > On Behalf Of Phil Richardson > Sent: 10 September 2010 18:53 > To: [email protected] > Cc: [email protected]; Britdisc > Subject: Re: [BD] Anti-Doping tutorial > > Hi Si, > > For those of us who can't make it to London, any chance the session > will > become a video seminar in the future? > > and are there any other education initiatives the UKU are working on? > > Phil > > On 10 September 2010 09:06, Si Hill, UK Ultimate > <[email protected]>wrote: > > > Hi > > > > > > > > It is likely that anti-doping testing will start to happen at > international > > ultimate events in the next few years - so far it has been limited to > the > > very small number of athletes attending the World Games every four > years - > > but we expect that to change. > > > > > > > > With this in mind WFDF is working on some education materials for > players. > > Ali Smith and I are on WFDF's anti-doping committee - and in > particular Ali > > is leading our efforts on athlete education. > > > > > > > > On Monday 13th, 19:30-21:30, Ali will be giving a presentation on > > anti-doping aimed at helping players understand their > responsibilities, > > etc. > > > > The venue is the sports centre - "Ethos" - at Imperial College - > postcode > > SW7 2AZ. > > > > > > There are still a few places available - so if you are interested > please > > email me back - ideally today if possible (sorry).
