BD,
UKU regionals will take place on the weekend of 23/24 July - hopefully,
in almost all regions, on Saturday 23rd only. Depending on the number of
teams entering, and the distances travelled, we'll look at it nearer the
time, but the intention is to create a local tournament that does not
require the same level of commitment as the existing tournament
structure. We aim to appeal to everyone out there, whilst at the same
time not asking too much of our top teams who will be obliged to turn up
and qualify for nationals.
For the list of regions, see
http://www.ukultimate.com/system/files/UKU%20National%20Championships%20-%20Regional%20Structure.pdf
As stated in that document, we do intend to separate the South East from
Greater London in 2011. Therefore we'd like to hear from anyone who
wishes to run a tournament in the South East, SW&Wales, or the
Midlands/Eastern England. (Mr. Wayne Retter may already be looking into
something in the South East).
As also stated, the decision on how many Nationals 2011 spots are
available per region will be based on the 2010 Tour results - however,
we would like to flag up at this stage that that is not necessarily
intended to be the case forever. As Tour teams come to less closely
resemble Nationals team over the coming years, the number of qualifying
spots will begin to be based on your region's performance at the
previous Nationals, as it is in student ultimate (though not with the
same algorithm). Teams of decrepit old chaps, for example, who can't
play a whole tour but do well at Nationals, will be able to earn a spot
at the following year's Nationals for their region, rather than
displacing another deserving team.
Cheers,
Benji
