GB U17 Girls – Trials announced – Saturday 23rd March 2013

The trials for the GB U17 Girls team for 2013 will take place on Saturday 23rd
March at Arthur Terry School in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham.

The trials will be the selection for the squad that will attend the European
Youth Ultimate Championships (EYUC) in Cologne, Germany running from the 5th to
the 10th August.

The trials will take place alongside the U17 Boys selection event – this is in
order to minimise the impact of travel commitments on parents and teachers, who
many of the U17 athletes rely on for transport. Please bear this in mind when
organising your travel.

Please note: the information in this email only applies to Girls trials, and
U17 Boys team will send out a separate communication about its own trials
process.

The GB U17 Girls squad for 2013 continues to be coached by Tom Howard and
Philippa Sturt, and will be managed by Chris Flight.

Who should attend?

Any girls born in 1997 or later are eligible to play at EYUC.

UKU’s GB selection policies also state that an athlete must be in school Year 8
or above / aged 12 or above in order to be considered.

If you are aged below 12 / are below Year 8 at school, please DO NOT attend
trials.

What are our aims for the season?

Following last season, a large proportion of the squad from previous years have
graduated to the U20 age group. Therefore the team in 2013, while retaining a
core of players from last year, will have more spaces to compete for.

Our preliminary aim this year is to begin to rebuild the squad. Taking into
account our expectations for the strength of this year’s squad, and the
possibility of increased competition at EYUC, we are aiming to create a squad
that will win a medal, progressing in future years to become European champions.

What are we looking for?

With our aims in mind, we want anyone who fits the eligibility criteria above
to apply to come to trials. We are not necessarily just looking for complete
players at present, but also players with the potential to develop with the
squad.

We will base our selection on not only proven skill but also future potential,
looking in particular at aspects such as athleticism, game awareness, natural
talent, team/squad need, playing position, and other criteria as applicable.
