I haven't posted to BD for a few years now, but felt this warranted it. Please take the time to read it.
Many of you (older?!) players will remember Derek Robins who used to play Ultimate for Stan and GB, among others. Del was one of the first people in the UK to start throwing around discs of plastic in a competitive capacity, and won pretty much everything in all of them. Including Ultimate, Field Events (including accuracy, self caught flight, throw/run/catch, etc...), GUTs and his beloved Disc Golf. Some of you will have heard of Disc Golf (picture 'ball' golf but with frisbees and baskets as holes), some of you will have played at Del's 'Quarry Park' Disc Golf Course in Leamington Spa. It's a bespoke course that he designed and has developed over many years, into one of the premier courses in Europe. If you haven't been, take a look at http://quarrypark.co.uk/ Derek spends half his time at Quarry Park, and half his time travelling the world, playing disc golf, competing at the highest level and winning loads and loads of trophies.THE BIG ONE is coming up on 17th July this summer, The President's Cup, it's pretty much disc golf's equivalent of the Ryder Cup. When I started up the Leamington Lemmings Ultimate Club, Derek was instrumental in helping me establish it, his enthusiasm, energy and support knew no bounds. I know that he's also helped and inspired many others to pick up a frisbee, and throw it into the endzone or a basket. I think it's time that we all gave him a bit of support in return.
