We used to have a demo up and running on the website, but that's not current.  
You can download the source files and get it running on a local web server with 
this: http://brlcad.org/design/material.tar.gz 

In my view, the emphasis should be on site usability.  How to accomplish that, 
however, is nearly endless.  You should do some research on material properties 
(see Charlie's earlier message about AP209, search the web for other resources) 
to understand the problem domain well.  Look forward to seeing what you come up 
with!
