No debate here.  They are both quite useful for development and both have trade 
off considerations.

As Ankesh mentioned, we already have a github organization defined that holds 
our web projects.

There is a git mirror of our svn repo but all core c/c++ development is 
centrally coordinated in the svn repo.  This is intentional.

Anyone interested in changing that should become a core developer (see AUTHORS 
file) and have that discussion with the other devs.
