Release 5.5 of brltty will be released soon. To this end, would as many of you as can please test the latest development code so that any problems can be resolved before the release.
There are, essentially, only two things that I'm waiting for. One is, as asked above, a short time to allow for user testing and problem reports. The other is to finish the imlementation of a really cool feature. This feature already works on Linux, but the plan is to also implement it on Windows and Android as part of 5.5. These are being done now, i.e. concurrent with waiting for the results of user testing. The feature is that you no longer need to know the Bluetooth address of your braille device. In other words, just specifying bluetooth: is good enough. That tells brltty that you want to use Bluetooth, and brltty will then find your braille device. There is, of course, a way to handle you having more than one Bluetooth braille device. You can read about this feature in README.Bluetooth as well as in the Bluetooth section of README.Devices. One of the benefits of this new capability is that the default braille device has been changed from usb: to usb:,bluetooth:. In other words, brltty will, by default, now check for both USB and Bluetooth devices. -- Dave Mielke | 2213 Fox Crescent | The Bible is the very Word of God.
