I got a response on the gentoo dev list today, and that just confused the issue more for me. I was told that according to the fhs, /var/lib is the correct localstatedir, and this link was sited: http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html#VARLIBVARIABLESTATEINFORMATION This isn't really an issue because I can get around the difference like I said above with a --localstatedir option to configure, but can you please tell me why you see it differently for my own education?
