Okay, here is what I did:

# turned off braille support in Orca (but kept Orca speech running so that I
could do the rest!)
# stopped brltty:
Sudo /etc/init.d/brltty stop
# restarted brltty with the debug flag:
Brltty -ldebug
# turned on braille support in Orca - At this point speech and braille both
worked fine
# turned on grade 2 support in Orca - At this point, Orca crashed (as
expected)

So now, if someone can tell me where to find the debug log file, I'll send it to the list. I didn't find anything like brltty.log or anything useful
in /var/log.

Thanks.

I've been working with Pete for several days trying to get him through
various build issues and such. I'm not quite sure what state his
machine is in because he's tried so many things. :-( There may be
things under /usr, things under /usr/local, and there may be different
versions of different things installed in both places.

I'm not convinced this can be quickly diagnosed as an Orca bug. On
OpenSolaris, I've had good success with the exact versions of Orca,
liblouis (I'm using the /usr/share/liblouis/tables/en-us-g2.ctb table),
and BrlTTY that Pete is using.

Please do what it says: add the -ldebug otion to the brltty command line
and have a look at the system log to get precise information about why
it crashed.

As Samuel says - this will be quite useful.

Orca Version 2.27.4PRE

Liblouis 1.6.2

Brltty 4.0

The problem is that when I select grade 2 output under the Orca
Preferences
/ Braille, Orca crashes.
Note: When grade 2 is not selected, Orca speech (using gnome-speech and
IBM
ViaVoice) works fine, and I get (grade 1) output to my PacMate braile
display (connected via USB).

According to your problem descritpion, this is a orca bug.
Since you are using a git version of Orca, you should report this to the
GNOME bugzilla or the orca-list. Willie Walker is reading
[email protected] as well though, maybe he can pick it up directly.
