I finally decided to go back to debian, partly to try to find the cause of
the problem since I did have this problem with one computer in debian
unstable, and partly because I was having issues with my computer running
hotter on Arch and didn't imediately find the solution and didn't want to
damage one of my computers while I was trying to figure it out. I now have
one computer on debian stable and the other on debian unstable and so far
the problem hasn't resurfaced. I'm keeping track of all the packages that
install and upgrade by using "dpkg --list" to a different file every time
I upgrade so that perhaps if the problem occurs again I'll be able to
discover the cause.
