The question about when I can set
<span class='n'>brl</span><span class='o'>-></span><span
class='n'>textColumns</span><span class='o'> and rows still remains. Can I
change that value after brl_connect has finished?</span>

Well, by "essentially constant" I didn't mean "always constant" :) It
was just meant as an explanation, not a rule to take.
