I can see you might need a long stick, and it might be cimbersome to use. Well, there are many ways to measure volume. You could install a glass tube outside the pot, connected to it near the bottom, and see the level there. Or you could give the pot a solid whack, and learn to recognize the sounds it makes at different levels. Or a camera installed on top of the pot, looking down. Or, for that sake, a radar, or other distance-measuring tool... Alternatively, you could install a scale under the system, and weight the whole setup. Maybe just a slightly wobbly construction that bends a bit under the load? Or you could calibrate how long it takes to fill in 100 liters, and do it all by timing. Or you could measure how much the temperature increases in a given time, and knowing your heater, you could calculate the mass, and from that the volume. You could drop a stone from above, and time how long to the splash, and how long to the clonk when it hits the bottom. You could toss in a floating device on a string, and see how much slack you can take off the string without lifting the float. I'm sure the creative readers on this list can come with many more ways!
