no, the patch cited above was already in the CVS, it was committed
in Feb 2004, see
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/autoconf-patches/2004-02/msg00010.html

(And I have just verified that it is still there.)

The problem is that no Autoconf release happened since than.

There was a development release 2.59b, see ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/autoconf/
