I ran autoconf 2.61 ( installed from a Red Hat rpm autoconf-2.61-8.fc7) in
cyrus-imapd-2.3.9 ( the configure included in the distribution failed, and is
7+ years old).
The resulting configure failed with:
checking build system type... Invalid configuration `x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu':
machine `x86_64-unknown' not recognized
configure: error: /bin/sh ./config.sub x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu failed
Curiously, copying configure, config.guess, and config.rpath from
courier-0.58.0 does seem to work.

software.
