This is a known problem with named fifos on Cygwin (see BUGS). I have a plan to fix it, basically by converting it to use `make -j` as the source of parallelism, but that's a big change and I think it should wait for 2.73. I don't have access to a Cygwin environment; do you have time to write a patch that makes "make check" skip these tests on Cygwin? The code to modify is AT_SKIP_PARALLEL_TESTS in tests/autotest.at.
