We ought to be consistent across all of the autotools. I personally prefer ARFLAGS over AR_FLAGS, since it is CFLAGS and not C_FLAGS. Also, I think that fits better with the GNU Coding Standards: http://www.gnu.org/prep/standards/standards.html#Command-Variables which mention appending "FLAGS" (not "_FLAGS") to the utility name. - -- Don't work too hard, make some time for fun as well!
