You can use LIBADD only with libtool libraries. It should work with libtool convenience archives (noinst_LTLIBRARIES), however (in case you use libtool): noinst_LTLIBRARIES=libfoo.la libbar.la libfoo_la_SOURCES=foo.c libbar_la_SOURCES=bar.c libbar_la_LIBADD=libfoo.la Cheers, Ralf
