Add your own mirror. Nothing is stopping you from doing it. But the canonical upstream repo should NOT live on github.com, since that site actively promotes the use of non-free software. I don't care if you want to pull from github, but I do care if you make me try to use github's add-on features above and beyond what I can already do using only free software without using github.
