Gioele appears to be using an email-based patch submission procedure modeled on that practiced by the Linux kernel and Linux man-pages projects. That procedure is in turn, I think, modeled on Git-based "pull requests". See, for example, <https://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&m=175824710429698&w=2>.
