Because the gzip maintainer has not had enough time to release a new one.

Eventually I got tired of the situation and released unofficial
versions that fixed obvious (and in some cases severe) bugs.  Nobody
should use gzip 1.2.4 or 1.2.4a any more.  You should use 1.3.5 if you
build from source.  Sun's 1.3.3-patch.1 should also be OK.
