Hi, yes, I am just asking to make it *optional*, i.e. provide an autotools option to build bison without examples.
For Gentoo, this started in 2015 with https://bugs.gentoo.org/538300. The bison package is in our @system set, i.e. it will be required whenever you bootstrap Gentoo. Thus, because building without perl would fail at this point, this is a problem for us. So we made examples and therefore perl an optional dep allowing us to build bison as part of our @system set during bootstrap without any problems. It would be totally fine for us to keep this option enabled by default in bison, i.e. nothing would change for any user. But it would allow to disable it during our bootstrap without patching bison all the time on our own (because like said, this package is used during bootstrap, we cannot even normally patch and re-run autoconf, so we also need to patch autoconf files and hack around, see https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/tree/sys-devel/bison/bison-3.7.2.ebuild?id=b83990fef62d8b50fc1cc30aac7cbbdde9cdfa48#n39). -- Regards, Thomas Deutschmann / Gentoo Linux Developer C4DD 695F A713 8F24 2AA1 5638 5849 7EE5 1D5D 74A5
