So the locking problems disappeared after disabling ntpdate, but  
reappeared 12 hours later and have been going strong again.  One of  
my systems had some interesting stuff in the logs.  What is the most  
confusing is that we have no routines that check www, ssh or such  
processes.  Where are these coming from?
