David, Please persevere a little longer. A brief search shows that 'netpbm' is the only package which has a worse combination of (a) extensive installed base and (b) large number of manual pages lacking examples. I'm not trying to question anybody else's contribution, but I'm just trying to point out to you that the contribution you were planning to make would be useful to many end-users.
