Yes, probably.  I'm willing to have a go at it.

I suggest submitting two patches.

(1) the part that makes it work with gnulib.
(2) the bug fix.

It's OK for (2) to assume that (1) has already been applied.

Each patch should have its own Changelog entry.

It's supposed to be in glibc, but we're not as good at keeping glibc
up to date as we should be.
