I'm chugging through a 12GB partition using block size of 512, and
it's taking a long time.
I wonder, are you doing a binary search to narrow down where the
errors are, finally stopping when you've subdivided to the hard block
size, or are you pushing ahead with 512-byte reads until you hit a
read that doesn't return -1?
Before I found ddrescue, I wasted 2 days fixing dd to work better
with disk recovery.
