Gentlemen,

I want to report a small problem with ddrescue and I think it is a bug in
ddrescue.

I use ddrescue often to copy data from one disk to other. And I already
observed several times that ddrescue stops to show progress on the screen. I
decided to report this problem.

I copy one 128GB SSD disk to other SSD disk, the last report was after 85GB
were copied:

root@PartedMagic:~# ddrescue -f /dev/sda /dev/sdb

GNU ddrescue 1.16
Press Ctrl-C to interrupt
rescued: 85430 MB, errsize: 0 B, current rate: 115 MB/s
   ipos: 85430 MB, errors: 0, average rate: 115 MB/s
opos: 85430 MB, time since last successful read: 0 s
Copying non-tried blocks...

Copy operations continues in the background but progress is not updated (it
should be updated once a second). Once whole disk is copied, report is
updated:

Welcome - Parted Magic (Linux 3.5.3-pmagic)

root@PartedMagic:~# ddrescue -f /dev/sda /dev/sdb

GNU ddrescue 1.16
Press Ctrl-C to interrupt
rescued: 128035 MB, errsize: 0 B, current rate: 45710 MB/s
   ipos: 128035 MB, errors: 0, average rate: 179 MB/s
opos: 128035 MB, time since last successful read: 0 s
Finished

I think this problem is random; it can happen after several gigabytes
transferred or it doesn't happen at all. It is not repeatable but it happens
with some probability.

With regards,
Petr
