        Are you connecting the drive via a USB bridge?  If not, I
        strongly suggest you do, because the USB bridges work better
        for this sort of recovery work than the direct SATA/SCSI
        interface.

        You might want to try keeping the drive cool (not frozen or
        ice-cold) as much as possible while you do this process.

        Usually with the USB interface, after the link fails, linux
        will frequently reestablish it, and ddrescue will keep scanning.
