Hello Kevin,

The command I am using is:

Even if I shorten up the logfile part of the command to just
'logfile.txt' with no path, I get the same error. However, if I omit
the logfile part of the command, the utility runs.

This makes no sense. If the mapfile (formerly called logfile) were the cause of the problem, the error message would be

ddrescue: Can't create mapfile: Permission denied

Do you have read permission to /dev/sdb3?
What version of ddrescue are you using?

Best regards,
Antonio.
