It would be useful if you could confirm that using '--reopen-on-error
--min-read-rate --idirect' improves the read rate (or not).
If these options do not improve the read rate, it may be that the kernel
is caching information about the ddrescue process and is not forgetting
its internal settings on the file descriptor corresponding to the input
file when ddrescue reopens it, making it necessary to restart ddrescue.
