Unfortunately, if you did not specify a mapfile, then there is nothing that can be currently done to get a mapfile except extracting it (in binary undefined format) from the RAM image of ddrescue.

Maybe it can be implemented in a future version of ddrescue a way to activate the emergency save in cases like yours, but it won't solve your current problem. Sorry.
