I was not aware there was a precompiled version of lzip. Is this for all
platforms?
I think so. A version for Mac can be found at
http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/package.php/lzip
A bit limited. You have to install the Fink installation system. They
also only offer a limited range of installations. For example, only
older versions of lzip if you are not using the latest operating
system. It also does not say what it is installing. If it is a Unix
executable, then it is not as simple as double-clicking the archive
to expand it. And even if it did, lzip does not untar so that has to
be done manually, whereas gzip does.
All in all, gzip seems more user-friendly.
