I am pleased to announce the release of GNU ed 1.8.

GNU ed is an 8-bit clean, more or less POSIX-compliant implementation of the standard Unix line editor.

The homepage is at http://www.gnu.org/software/ed/ed.html

The sources can be downloaded from http://ftpmirror.gnu.org/ed/ http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/ed/ or from your favorite GNU mirror.

The md5sums are:
af292b89343ea38adf6bcc06361994ee ed-1.8.tar.lz
2268d2344b3c52d23730acb2e3c942fe ed-1.8.tar.gz

This release is also GPG signed. You can download the signature by appending ".sig" to the URL.

Changes in version 1.8:

* Ed now stops reading stdin when reaching real End Of File the first time. (Before it needed to reach EOF twice).

Please send bug reports and suggestions to bug-ed@gnu.org

This version is also available in lzip format. In the improbable case that lzip is not packaged in your distro, you can download it from http://www.nongnu.org/lzip/lzip.html

If you are packaging ed for a distribution, please, try to use the lzipped source tarball, as this can improve the support for the lzip format in packaging systems. Thanks.

Regards,
Antonio Diaz, GNU ed maintainer.
