I let the files in /tmp accumulate, and perhaps a couple times a year I throw out most of the old ones. Occasionally I have a reason to reuse an older tmp file. This has led to my having to fight with the various software (e.g. systemd tmpfiles.d(5)) I've used over the years, that likes to keep cleaning /tmp out.
... and I'm wandering even further off topic :).
