"-l" should be the default.
I see. Sorry for misunderstanding. Well, I don't use ed
non-interactively so it's not really my place, but for those who do, it
seems like a heck of a big backward incompatibility, even with a
isatty() check. The advantage of -l is that it makes it simpler for
only those people who want the loose behavior to get it.
(It seems to me that at least there should then be a --strict-exit-status
option. Or maybe there already is. Sorry.)
There shall be no "-l" option,
I hope GNU ed will continue to have a -l option even if it is a no-op.
Otherwise it will be painful to discern what option to use or omit.
