IMHO 4.0r is production quality.
4.0 has a few known bugs, so I wouldn't use it.
4.1 is overdue...

I don't remember fixing any bug that was specific to mvfs. cp and mv
sources have been seriously reorganized since 3.16, so maybe it was
fixed by all that -- hard to say without knowing exactly what went wrong.
