Thanks for the patch. The inclusion of actual code is most
appreciated!
Recent versions of fileutils-4.1 now print the full user and group names
without truncating to 8 characters. Here is the NEWS entry for
versions later than 4.1.1.
[4.1.1]
* ls no longer truncates user names or group names that are longer
than 8 characters.
