Some Questions about GDB

Hi there,

    I am trying to find out if it is possible to debug an embedded
program with gdb running on a workstation. I know this is
possible but some more technical details would be welcome,
such as :
 

• which distribution of gdb is needed ?
• what is the protocol used ? Serial line ? TCP/IP ?
• what is the program (or piece of code) that has to run on the target machine ?
• How can I get the code of this program ?
