Rollout results match up more to my initial expectations (see below). Asking
for more threads than the 8 available does not improve speeds. Performance
tails off as the number of threads approaches the maximum. I put this down
to a combination of: priority set to "idle", other tasks being run on the
computer, the OS overhead, the thread-management overhead.

If the speed evaluation is broken, I suggest it be removed from the menu
until it is fixed (if ever).
