My opinion is that libgmp is already useful elsewhere. So the question
is does anyone use BBS or have I directed anyone to consider it. Only
two people comes to mind. Rec.games.backgammon most notable personality
in the past 15 years: Murat and a fellow named Roy Crabtree.

Whether that is enough to keep BBS - probably not. But I just wanted to
mention it for completeness.

My reluctance was due to the need for libgmp. If it is needed elsewhere and hence "free" for BBS, then I think the latter is clearly worth keeping. In principle, it even ought to be a better choice than Mersenne for interactive play.

All this discussion is for play, by the way. In the original post on the subject, Ian mentionned simplifying rollout export data ; for rollouts, Mersenne is the most (the only ?) sensible choice and we could use it exclusively and drop the "set rollout rng" setting.
